Launching Straighten Up Ireland 2013
The Chiropractic Association of Ireland (CAI) is about to launch their 5th annual Straighten Up Ireland week. From Monday 14th October till Friday 18th to include World Spine Day on the 16th, Irish Chiropractors will be promoting spinal health and wellness and encouraging Irish people of all ages to undertake a simple 3 minute daily exercise routine to improve mobility and core strength.
The theme for this year’s World Spine Day is ‘Straighten Up and Move’. With our increasingly sedentary lifestyles we are spending less and less time moving and more and more time sitting in harmful postures. Movement is vital for keeping joints and muscles healthy and also for keeping our nervous system functioning well. Undertaking a daily exercise programme is one small step we can take towards improving our spinal health and in doing so, our overall well being.
Unfortunately children are also affected by this more sedentary lifestyle, spending more and more time sitting watching television, on computers and game consoles. Lack of movement in children not only increases their chance of developing spinal problems later in life but can also affect their growth and development. Teaching children the importance of movement and caring for their spine at a young age can help to keep them healthy throughout life.
