The Chiropractic Association of Ireland (CAI) is encouraging people of all ages to “Straighten Up and Move” for World Spine Day this year. World Spine Day aims to raise awareness of spinal health and the global impact or spinal disorders. According to the World Health Organization, one in four adults is not active enough and over 80% of the adolescent population is not active enough. Research has demonstrated that poor posture and inactivity are major contributors to the development of back pain and other spinal disorders. Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work. In fact, back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor’s office, outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections. According to the Global Burden of Disease 2010, low back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide.
When most people hear the word ‘Chiropractic’, they think back pain.
