The Chiropractic Association of Ireland is delighted to announce that they will be the official healthcare provider for the Irish Warriors Australian Rules Team for the 2011 International Cup in Australia from August 12th to 27th. The ‘World Cup’ of Australian Rules, the International Cup will see 18 nations competing from all over the globe. The Irish Warriors are among the favourites this year, having won the initial competition in 2002, and reaching the semi-finals in both 2005 and 2008. Chiropractic Association of Ireland member Dr. Tammy Verlaan-Ross will travel with the team and work with players for the duration of the tournament.
Dr. Siobhan Guiry, President of the Chiropractic Association of Ireland, commented: “Chiropractic is an extremely effective form of care for people that participate in sport. Chiropractic is beneficial for healing injuries and maintaining health. It is also about improving performance. Over the years there has been a great deal of research on the role of Chiropractic in sports performance. These studies demonstrate the power of Chiropractic in improving speed, strength, and coordination. Chiropractic care is often utilised worldwide by amateur and professional athletes.”
Dr. Tammy Verlaan-Ross will work with the team throughout the competition to keep the players functioning at their best.
Irish Warriors Head Coach, Tom Madigan said: “Having an expert healthcare provider as part of the Irish Warriors back room team is essential to maintaining the health and optimum performance of the players. We feel that Dr. Tammy’s role as team healthcare provider will be an important factor in maximising the performance of the team.”
Dr. Tammy Verlaan-Ross commented: “When athletes are competing at such a high level it is critical that their bodies are performing at their best. Not only does Chiropractic care help to decrease the chance of injury, it is also important for peak performance and to ensure that players get optimal recovery post matches. My role with the team will be to work with the players before, during and after the games to keep them at their physical peak, hopefully helping the Irish team to a successful trip to Australia.”
She continued: “I am delighted to be involved with the team. All of the players have worked so hard to get to this level and there can be such a fine line between winning and losing. I see Chiropractic care as being critical to ensuring the players are able to be at their healthiest and at their best.”
Chiropractic has a tradition of effectiveness and patient satisfaction without the use of drugs or surgery. CAI chiropractors use their detailed knowledge to assess the impact of spinal and joint dysfunction on the nervous system and on general health. They also utilise a range of other treatment techniques such as exercise prescription, nutritional support and lifestyle advice. CAI members are primary healthcare providers, which means they look at the whole body, not just where the symptoms may appear.
